Ian Marychurch MSc BSc CEng MICE CGEOL FGS

As Managing Director of CGL, Ian has over 30 years’ experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering for industrial, commercial and residential projects across the UK.  Ian is highly experienced in the interpretation of site investigation data, in the design of contaminated land remediation schemes and landfill gas protection measures.  He has been a member of the steering committee for the current British Standard BS 8485:2007 - Code of Practice for the Characterization and Remediation from Ground Gas in Affected Developments.

Nick Langdon MSc BEng DIC CEng CEnv FICE FGS

Company Chairman and Director of CGL, Nick has nearly 35 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering. He has particular skills in the assessment and interpretation of site investigation data, slope analysis and stabilisation, and the design of foundations.  Nick has acted successfully as an Expert Witness on geotechnical issues in a number of cases in recent years.  Nick and Jo Strange (also from CGL) are joint-authors of the current Institution of Civil Engineers’ Guidance on contaminated land - Contaminated Land - investigation, assessment and remediation, Thomas Telford 2007 and contributors to the Manual of Geotechnical Engineering, Thomas Telford 2011.

Andy O’Dea MSc BAI BA DIC MIES FGS
As Business Director, Andy is responsible for commercial management and business development for CGL in the southern region.  With almost 20 years’ experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental consultancy, Andy has delivered on many large and complicated land development projects for a variety of UK clients. He has also contributed as a member of the steering group for several publications, issued from industry authorities such as CIRIA, CL:AIRE and BGA. Andy’s experience encompasses contamination risk assessment, waste management, sustainability assessment, geotechnical design, UXO and environmental impact assessment.

Hailey TamblynPhD BEng(Hons) CEng MICE
Hailey is an Associate Director managing CGL’s Exeter office.  She has a number of years of consultancy and project management experience, involving geoenvironmental investigations for both remediation and geotechnical design purposes.  Hailey’s expertise also covers landfill containment methodologies including clay and geo-composite lining systems, focusing on long term contaminant containment and the design and implementation of associated long-term monitoring regimes.  She leads CGL’s expertise in waste disposal classification and has extensive experience of dealing with producers and receivers of construction wastes.

Jo Strange MEng CEng CEnv MICE MIEnvSci SiLC
Jo is the Technical Director at CGL and she is particularly skilled in the design, implementation and interpretation of geoenvironmental site investigations, remediation design and validation.   Her expertise include quantitative risk assessment for soils, groundwater and ground gases, and the provision of specialist waste management advice with respect to contaminated soils and she is a registered environmental auditor with IEMA and a SiLC.  Jo and Nick Langdon are joint-authors of the current Institution of Civil Engineers’ Guidance on contaminated land - Contaminated Land - investigation, assessment and remediation, Thomas Telford 2007 and contributors to the Manual of Geotechnical Engineering, Thomas Telford 2011.

Richard Pennock MSc BEng(Hons) CEng MIMMM FGS ACSM
Richard Pennock, an Associate Director, manages CGL’s Harrogate office.  He is a specialist in geoenvironmental engineering, having worked in consultancy and contracting on major commercial, industrial and residential projects here in the UK and internationally.  His experience covers the technical and managerial aspects of consultancy including due diligence appraisals, and the investigation and design of remediation schemes with particular expertise in quantitative gas risk assessments, rock slope stability appraisal and mitigation, mining risk assessment and foundation design.

Ian Cutler MEng CEng MICE
As an Associate Director of CGL, Ian is based in our Exeter office with responsibilities for technical support for infrastructure, including highways and rail, across the company.  Ian has experience in civil, geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering for major commercial, industrial and residential development projects here in the UK.  Ian’s expertise includes the remediation of contaminated land, ground improvement, foundation design, slope and rock stability, earthworks and waste management.

Richard Ball BSc MSc CEng MICE FGS
Richard Ball is a Principal Engineer with experience in major infrastructure contracts comprising assessment of embankments and cuttings for railways and major highways, commercial and private developments, and civil engineering projects.  Richard has particular experience in geotechnical design including slope stability, mass gravity and embedded retaining walls, heave analysis and specialist ground modelling for deep basements, shallow foundations, settlements due to tunnelling and pile design. He has also assisted in the production of detailed geotechnical design calculations and technical support for a number of litigation cases.
