Great Western Quarter, Brentford, West London Great Western Quarter

Client: Barratt

The former headquarters of a pharmaceutical company in Brentford, West London is the site of a new landmark development by Barratt West London ( www.GWQ.uk.com ). The site covers approximately 5.5 hectares and the development will comprise a combination of refurbishment and new-build, including mixed commercial, residential and leisure facilities - including a 30-storey hotel.

We undertook a combined geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigation.  Our holistic approach proved to be the most cost effective and logistically efficient method.  It reduced the overall programme of the site works and provided significant cost savings to our client.

This development will be constructed over a one- and two- level basement occupying approximately 3.5 hectares. This poses geotechnical challenges as the site is bounded by a mainline railway and a viaduct carrying the A4 Great West Road, together with a number of existing buildings that are to be retained (including the Grade II Listed 1940's Wallis House), some with partial basements.
