Office building, Cheapside, City of London Drilling in low headroom

Cameron Taylor

This redevelopment of part of a multi-storey office block with a three level basement, involved the demolition of part of the existing 1950s office building and construction of a new 10-storey tower in its place. The basement was to be retained.

We were appointed to carry out a desk study and intrusive fieldwork, which comprised the construction of 2 boreholes to 30m in a tightly confined basement location, together with contamination sampling from trial pits excavated by others, and recommendations on the foundation solution to be adopted.
