Hendon Lane, Finchley, London

Client: Rialto Homes

We were appointed to investigate a localised landslip, some 60m long and 6m high, to the rear of an apartment block.

The site had been a market garden until redeveloped in the early 1990s. At that time significant regrading was done to accommodate the residential complex, which included a part-basement built into the slope.

The investigation and installed inclinometers confirmed a shallow depth rotational failure that was then analysed using Oaysis SLOPE.

Restoration measures involved the construction of counterfort drains across the site, re-profiling and toe wall construction, combined with restoration of the landscaping.
