We were appointed to direct and validate the remediation of a former car-dismantling site for residential development that had complex hydrocarbon contamination.

The site remediation was achieved by ex-situ soil stabilisation using a combination of organophilic clays and cement. The organophilic clays adsorb the hydrocarbons into the clay matrix making them immobile, while the cement reduces the permeability of the mixed soils and increases its strength.
