Railway Engineering

CARD has acted as independent Civil Engineer for the Swanage Railway for many years, responsible for the safety of the permanent way and line structures.
In 2008 CARD undertook a ten year condition survey of the railway, comprising the inspection and analysis of the permanent way infrastructure including bridges, embankments, cuttings, retaining structures, drainage ditches and culverts.
CARD is also providing design advice on the re-opening of the line from Norden to Wareham, which will allow the Purbeck Rail Partnership to run a regular commuter service between Swanage and the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation.
The Swanage heritage railway covers a route of six miles in southern Dorset with an intensive timetable of steam and diesel trains.
