Revival of Dorchester Breweries

Posted Date : 6 October 2011

Our clients, Peter Gunning & Partners and Brewery Square Development Co. are entering the second phase of the Brewery Square commercial and retail development. Originally a brewery since 1880, the site was sold 10 years ago when the brewery finally closed. Brewery Square will eventually comprise of 30 buildings spread over 11.5 acres developed over 5 phases.

CGL provided geotechnical advice at a critical point in this project when another company had recommended piled foundations, which blew the budget and would have put a stop to development had we not stepped in, value engineered the foundations and advised pad foundations on this very competent chalk. Subsequently, we have been appointed by the clients to provide continued support for data appraisals, remediation strategy, tender input, liaise with the regulators, supplementary site investigations, waste characterisation, value engineering of foundation design, membrane verification, and other geotechnical and geoenvironmental requirements.
